INFO100, Introductory Visual Basic
Using E-mail
- e-mail is a very important technique for communicating with my students
- I shall always send original messages to your college supplied e-mail address; my replies however, will go to whatever address your message is sent from
- part-time students are not provided with a college e-mail address; if you are a part-time student and have your own e-mail address, then send me a message from your address and I will add it into my address book; be sure to include your full real name and student number, and indicate that you are in my INFO100 course; if you do not have an e-mail address then please speak to me about it
- it is your responsibility to ensure that you are able to receive and reply to e-mail that is sent by me to your college-assigned e-mail address, and that I am able to receive and reply to messages that you send to me
- it is your responsibility to check your e-mail regularly
- ensure that your course number, INFO100, does show in the subject entry of any message when I receive it
- you need an internet service provider [ISP] if you wish to send or receive e-mail from off-campus
- it is not acceptable to attach assignment files to e-mail messages; all assignments must be submitted by ftp
Configuring an E-mail Client
- use the Eudora e-mail client in the g1012 computer lab; configure Eudora using the Tools | Options menu; the information will be saved automatically into the Mail folder on your password protected f: drive
- your e-mail address is emailname@falcon.fanshawec.on.ca; your emailname will be provided by the college
- you must know your password in order to retrieve e-mail from the mail server
- the Internet Protocol [IP] address for the Post Office Protocol [POP] server is falcon.fanshawec.on.ca
- the IP address for the Simple Mail Transport Protocol [SMTP] server is also falcon.fanshawec.on.ca
- ensure that your own real name does show in the from entry of any message when I receive it
- when replying to a message from myself, always include the original text of my message in your reply
